Owning a business is definitely not for the faint of heart, it takes a lot of time, tears, and devotion. Since you’ve put so much of yourself into your business, you should protect it. With hurricane season starting in the beginning of June, it’s time to refresh your disaster plan. And if you don’t have a disaster plan, there’s no better time than the present to make one.

  1. Create an Emergency Operations Plan

If a natural disaster hits your business, how would react? Since every situation will vary immensely, it’s critical that you take the details into consideration and figure out the best plan for your needs. Be sure to include on-site emergency kits, alternate communication methods for employees, and up to date evacuation plans.

  1. Have Back-Ups of Important Data

If you have a large amount of important paperwork stored at your business, be sure to have copies stored in an off-site location and to have the originals safely stored as well to avoid the brunt of weather damage. With the modern age however, much of that paperwork (if not all), can simply be scanned and uploaded to the cloud.

  1. Contact Your Insurance Provider

Be sure you and your insurance provider are on the same page, make sure you have all your assets documented in case of damage or loss. Also its not a bad idea to talk with your provider and ensure that your current policy’s limits are enough to cover your business.
